For the Upper Level, the lowest number on the scale (500) is the lowest possible score a student can earn and the highest number (800) is the highest score for each section. The total scaled score for an Upper Level has a low value of 1500, a high value of 2400, and a midpoint of 1950.

How much SSAT score is required?

The answer to the above question is: “It depends on the needs of the students”. Each student’s talents, interests, and goals are completely unique. Furthermore, the “good” SSAT score can fluctuate depending on which school the student is planning to apply to.

  1. Most private schools would like to see SSAT scores above the 50th percentile

The main purpose of SSAT certificate is to test students’ readiness for the US general education environment. SSAT is often the “benchmark” of content/giftedness for admission to a student at multiple schools. For this reason, students who scored above the 50th percentile were well above the average.

  1. Some schools want SSAT scores in the 80-90th+ percentiles

The average SSAT score for accepted students at schools such as the Phillips Exeter Academy, the Phillips Andover Institute, and the former Groton School was around the 85th percentile. However, if your student does not achieve this score, it does not mean you will lose the opportunity to enter these schools.
