Most SAT II exams take place in the form of multiple-choice tests, only the language group will take the essay including the standard test and the listening test. From 2016, SAT I has applied a new scale of 1600 instead of 2400 as before and candidates will not be deducted for the wrong answer. But with SAT II, the candidates’ penalty deduction is still applied to the following principles:

  • 1/4 point for each incorrect answer in the question with 5 options.
  • 1/3 point for each incorrect answer in the question with 4 options.
  • 1/2 point for each incorrect answer in the question with 3 options.
  • 0 point for unanswered questions.

Most SAT II questions have 5 answers, so the penalty is usually 0.25 points for each wrong answer.

With the advantages of SAT Subject Test certificate, even if the university you are applying for is not required, you should still choose two subjects in SAT II that are most relevant to your field to take the certification, this will impress the school well and make it easier to be accepted than other candidates.
