# of Scores Score Type Description Score Range
Total score Sum of the two-section scores 400-1600
2 Section scores Evidence-based Reading and Writing + Math 200-800
3 Test scores Reading, Writing and Language, and Math 10-40
3 SAT Essay scores Reading, Analysis, and Writing 2 – 8
2 Cross-test scores Analysis in History/Social Studies and Analysis in Science. These scores are based on selected questions in all three sections. 10-40
7 Subscores From Evidence-based Reading and Writing: Command of Evidence, Words in Context, Expression of Ideas, and Standard English Conventions. From Math: Heart of Algebra, Problem Solving and Data Analysis, and Passport to Advanced Math. 1-15

From the table above you can see that:

  • The Subscores section will show you how well you did on the test in different subjects, to give more clarity on your strengths and weaknesses. This section will be scored on a scale of 1 – 4 for each section.
  • The cross-test will be on a scale of 10 – 40. Unlike the EBRW, you don’t combine these two scores and multiply them to get a final score on a scale between 200 and 800.
  • The Essay is optional and will not be counted towards your overall SAT score. Essay scores will be displayed separately on the score report.
  • The score of the Essay will be calculated on a scale of 2-8 .

SAT score conversion

For SAT scores, there are two types of scores that you need to understand: Raw Scores and Scaled Scores.

  • The Raw Score is the score you get from the correct answers. The raw score will not be deducted if the student makes a mistake or skips a sentence.
  • The scaled score is the score converted from Raw score to a scale of 200 – 800 according to each test section.
