These scores often confuse students in the differences between raw – scale – percentile scores in GRE, because they will be different from the way scores are calculated at school. So we need to know what is the raw score, scale score, and percentile ranking?

First of all, Gre’s score based on the Total score of the GRE General Test will be 260-340, and for the GRE Subject Test, the total score will be 200-990.

Raw score

Raw score is determined by calculating the number of wrong answers and correct answers. Candidates will not be deducted points for incorrect answers and questions left blank. The score for each question like this is called the raw score.

Scale score

The scale score is determined by the conversion table from the raw score. Different scales are used for different levels and are adjusted for each test.

Each Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning section will have a score of 130-170, while the Analytical Writing section will be 0-6.

Percentile rank

Each point will come with a percentage rating. The percentile rating will show how many people score lower than you on the test. The higher you rank, the better you do on the test.

If you get a rating of 70, you do better than 70% of your competitors. This number will be the school’s accurate assessment of your ability compared to other candidates.
