Frequently asked questions about the ACT

During the ACT scoring process, the examiner only counts the correct answers. For incorrect or blank answers, no points will be deducted.

  • What is the ACT Score Scale?

ACT scores are on a scale of 1-36. This is the total score of the exam subjects (English, mathematics, reading, science), rounded to the nearest whole number. Fractions less than half are rounded down; Fractions half and up are rounded up.

  • What is the ACT subscore?

ACT Subscore scores are used to determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses in four test subjects. Subscore scores range from 1 to 18 and they are also scaled from your raw score. However, there is NO direct relationship between your subscore and your overall score. Your subscore just gives you more information about your performance on the test and the areas you might want to improve on.
